Canadian Firefighters Memorial Ceremony - 2014 - part 5 of 5

I apologize to the Ottawa Fire Service Band. They were involved in the ceremony and contributed some fine music. Unfortunately I was never in the right place at the right time to photograph them, so they're missing from this record.

One of the residents of the building next to the memorial was kind enough
to allow me onto the roof, six flights up, to take pictures from above. I
really appreciated that. Can you tell I have a fear of heights? I think the
high angle made for some interesting views.

This is Doug Greek from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. He has been to every one
of these ceremonies since they started. Until the site reduced the silent
sentries on the altar from four to two he stood duty with his speaking
trumpet. Although the fire service no longer uses them it still uses speaking
trumpets in its symbolism.

There you have it. With the ceremony concluded attendees had their
picture taken with the firefighter. Here you can see wildland firefighters
taking their turn. Most of those attending have left and the chairs have
been stacked ready for pickup. The 2015 ceremony will be held on
Sunday, September 13, 2015. I intend to be there.
I hope you will be there, too.
