Ottawa Fire Services Memorial Ceremony, September 5, 2025

The Ottawa Fire Services Memorial Ceremony took place on September 5, 2025. The photographs before and during the ceremony are shown here in the order I took them.

I arrived early. The first thing that took my attention was this hand drawn, hand operated pumper. These were in use during the early 1800s until about 1860 when they were gradually replaced with horse drawn steam pumpers.

Checking the Peace Tower clock I saw that I had much time before the ceremony began. I decided to do a walk around of the hand pumper.

Usually at these ceremonies there would be a Canadian flag flying between the two extended fire truck ladders. Due to a forecast of heavy wind during the ceremony the decision not to hoist the flag was made. This is for safety as heavy wind on the flag will blow down the flag and tip the trucks over.

The ceremony begins.
