Canadian Firefighters Memorial, April 12, 2015

This was the warmest day so far since the winter with a high of 18º C. Despite the sunny day and comfortable temperature the memorial site still had a little patch of snow, which you'll see in one of the pictures below. The burlap snow fence has yet to be removed and there is some accumulated trash to be removed. The trees have received some attention. The oak trees have had some major pruning to their lower branches, and it looks like the downy snowberries have also had some deadwood cut away.

Canadian Firefighters Memorial, March 29, 2015

In the past two weeks we have had temperatures fighting to be above zero and we have had the snow fighting to remain with several days with snowfalls. The snow has gradually retreated on the Memorial site. The deciduous trees on the site have grown buds and are ready to sprout their leaves.

The wind and salt spray has worn through the firefighter's protective coating in a number of places, notably on his right arm and on his boots. Look closely at his pictures below and you will see the green patina showing through in those locations.

Canadian Firefighters Memorial, March 15, 2015

During the week before March 15, we had positive temperatures and no precipitation. Much of the snow had melted away. During the eight or twelve hours before I took these pictures we had a snow fall, so instead of looking like early spring, which it is, the site looks like it's in the middle of winter.

Canadian Firefighters Memorial, March 1, 2015

It looks like about a month and a half has gone by since the last time I was out taking pictures of the memorial. What with bad weather and birthday parties February managed to slip by without having me go out to take pictures. As it is I think that I have now photographed the memorial with the most snow it has had this winter. Since I started to see runoff this day I have a feeling the next time I come out there will be significantly less snow, if any.

I wanted to show the paths that people have made on the site, so I took this
picture and the next one to do that. I think the path that goes across the site
comes from people using it as a short cut. The one that goes next to the wall
is most likely from people coming to see the names there.
