Canadian Firefighters Memorial, February 7, 2013

I think I would have taken more pictures if that day had not been so cold. The firefighter is not longer shiny and golden. He has developed quite a dark patina in a relatively short time. The most likely reason is that the salt on the road gets kicked into the air and then blows onto him. It's hard to see from the pictures but the patina on his back is not as far along.

I went looking for Ovila Lachance. He was with the Ottawa Fire Department so many of the names around him are of Ottawa firefighters. Ovila Lachance while involved in overhaul operations (looking for and extinguishing hidden fires) after a fire stepped on a nail that went through his foot. From that he got tetanus and died on August 16, 1898.
