Canadian Firefighters Memorial, June 26, 2011.

At this visit to the site I started taking pictures by placing the camera lens through the holes in the fence.

This time around you can see that the foundation walls have been completed for the main wall and the structure that will hold the Lone Pine. The Lone Pine is to represent wildland firefighters. Wildland firefighters are specially equipped and trained to fight forest fires.

The memorial's designers originally had planned to use a pine tree native to British Columbia. Research showed that Ontario's winter tends to be much more severe than British Columbia's so they selected a hardier species.

On the site you will also see piles of rebar with labels attached to the pieces. I think these rods were cut to length and bent to specification before being shipped to the site.
