Canadian Firefighters Memorial Under Construction, June 18, 2011

In these pictures you can see the foundation for the wall has been poured and formers are in place for the feature that will become the structure for the Lone Pine. You can see that rebar extends up from the top of the wall's foundation. At that point I had not yet figured out that I could put the lens of the camera between the wires of the fence and get a picture without the fence in the way. That came later. Later still I added a small Rubbermaid step stool and was able to take pictures from a higher angle over the fence.

At this point in time the dedication ceremony, which took place on September 9, 2012, was fifteen months into the future.

For the first few months I went to the site on my own. Later on my friend Doug, a retired firefighter with the Ottawa Fire Service accompanied me. Each time we would speculate on what was being built, what supplies were for and how things would look.

Now that the memorial site has been pretty much completed, we know how it turned out. I find looking at these pictures again, some two years later, extremely interesting. I hope you find them that way, too.
