Canadian Firefighters Memorial, July 24, 2011

The formers have gone into place for the upper part of the wall. There is a black rubber mesh fence surrounding the beginning of an excavation for the base of the statue. There is also water piping and other material on the site for construction to come.

As I showed up each week I would see what had been done and the things that had been delivered to the site and speculate on what the various things would become and what they would do next. I think the completed memorial site is beautiful. I think it fulfills everything we wanted from it. I think it is a world class commemoration to Canada's fire service.

We wanted a world class memorial. We wanted it to be impressive but we also wanted it to be a place where loved ones of the fallen could come and find a place with some peaceful ambiance where they could quietly reflect, remember and find comfort. I think this memorial achieves all that.
